Description: Shape elongate, length much greater than height, umbo posterior to midline, anterior side longer; weak diagonal ridge from umbo to ventral margin, ventral margin with shallow indentation near posterior end. Exterior with smooth anterior half and broad radial ridges with narrow interspaces on central section and posterior end. Interior with strong anterior and posterior muscle scars and pallial line distinct (but no pallial sinus); margin coarsely crenulate. Hinge as for family. Ligament external. Shell exterior colour white to brown with brown to purple radial or zig-zag markings; interior white, sometimes with purple blotches.

Size: Up to 48 mm in length.

Distribution: Annan River mouth, north Qld, southwards to Bindalong, south of Ulladulla, NSW.

Habitat: All the specimens in the Australian Museum collection are from beach washup or intertidal sand flats.

Comparison: This species is similar to Hemidonax dactylus but is larger with a heavier shell, and the posterior ridge from umbo to ventral margin is sharper, and there is an indentation in the ventral margin near the posterior end.
