Hemidonax dactylus Hedley, 1923

Description: Shape elongate, length much greater than height, umbo posterior to midline, anterior side longer; weak diagonal ridge from umbo to ventral margin. Exterior with smooth anterior half and coarse rounded radial ridges with wide interspaces on posterior half. Interior with anterior and posterior muscle scars and pallial line distinct (but no pallial sinus); margin coarsely crenulate. Hinge as for family. Ligament external. Shell exterior colour white to fawn, with brown on purplish-brown markings; interior white, pink, orange or purple.

Size: Up to 29 mm in length.

Distribution: Gladstone, Qld, southwards to Twofold Bay, NSW.

Habitat: Known down to 100 m depth. Most specimens are from beach washup.
