Semelangulus tenuiliratus (G. B. Sowerby II, 1867)

Description:   Shape elongate, umbo at posterior third. Antero-dorsal margin straight, postero-dorsal margin initially straight. Posteroventral region incipiently drawn out to a spout, margin straightened. Angulation from umbo to posterior end on both valves; shell slightly twisted at extreme posterior. Exterior with fine commarginal ridges, stronger on posterior end. Interior with muscle scars well defined, pallial line and sinus obscure. Pallial sinus nearly reaching anterior muscle scar. Hinge with 2 cardinal teeth in each valve, with a widely spaced lateral each side. Ligament short, external. Shell colour uniformly white or pink, or (rarely) rose or white with pink concentric bands.

Size:                Up to 12 mm in length.

Distribution:  Central Qld, southwards and around southern Australia, to Streaky Bay, SA, including Tas.

Habitat:          In sand down to 75 m. Most specimens are from beach washup. Common.

Synonymy:     Tellina semitorta G. B. Sowerby II, 1867 is a previously recognised synonym.
