Eucrassatella cumingii (A. Adams, 1854) Description: Shell solid and heavy. Shape roughly triangular, well inflated, extended posteriorly, umbo situated in front of midline. Anterior dorsal margin straight, posterior dorsal margin slightly concave, ventral margin smoothly rounded, posterior end angled. Lunule and escutcheon large and clearly defined. Exterior with strong, regular, commarginal ridges dorsally, becoming weaker and irregular ventrally. Interior white, muscle scars well defined, the posterior one usually brown. Pallial line continuous, margin smooth. Hinge strong. Ligament internal, below umbo. Shell colour white. Periostracum thick, dark brown. Size: Up to 70 mm in length. Distribution: Vanuatu (supposedly) and Australia. In Australia, from Cape York, Qld, southwards to Crescent Head, NSW. Habitat: Low intertidal in sand down to 90 m. Comparison: Eucrassatella kingicola is a similar southern Australian species, in NSW, found only in the far south Synonymy: Eucrassatella genuina Iredale, 1936 is a synonym.
