Vimentum dilectum (E.A. Smith, 1885)

Description: Shell well inflated. Shape umbo located on midline; anterior dorsal margin slightly concave, posterior dorsal margin straight to slightly convex; ventral margin smoothly rounded. Lunule not strongly defined, large, shallow. Exterior with about 28 radial ribs with narrow interspaces, crossed by dense, more closely spaced commarginal grooves, forming brick-shaped nodules. Interior with external sculpture showing through weakly; anterior and posterior muscle scars well defined, pallial line continuous; margin coarsely crenulate. Hinge strong; left valve with single cardinal tooth and long, blade-shaped lateral; right valve with cardinal and strong, slotted lateral. Ligament external. Shell colour white with irregular patches of light or dark brown. Interior white or pale pink.

Size: Up to 10 mm length.

Distribution: Endemic to Australia: Cape Moreton, Qld, southwards and around southern Australia, to south-western WA, including Tas.

Habitat: Subtidal 50-300 m.
