Bathycardita raouli (Angas, 1872)

Descrition: Shell solid and heavy, well inflated. Shape umbo located well in front of midline; anterior dorsal margin short, straight; posterior dorsal margin long, convex. Lunule small, deep. Exterior with about 13 sparsely scaled radial ribs, interspaces about the same as rib width. Interior with external ribs showing through; muscle scars incised, pallial line continuous; margin coarsely crenulate. Hinge strong; left valve with bifid cardinal tooth and long, blade-shaped lateral. Right valve with 2 cardinals and slotted lateral. Ligament long, external. Shell colour white or pink with pink radials, covered by thick, brown periostracum. Interior pale fawn.

Size: Up to 37 mm in length.

Distribution: Endemic to Australia: Evans Head, NSW, southwards to Bass Strait and eastern Tas.

Habitat: Subtidal, 50-150 m depth.
