Ovacuna atkinsoni (Tenison-Woods, 1876) Description: Shell small. Prodissoconch small, domed, elevated, nipple-like. Shape almost circular, ovate posterior to midline; anterodorsal and posterodorsal margins convex; escutcheon and lunule absent. Exterior with up to 19 weak, low, rounded commarginal ridges, plus growth lines. Interior smooth, ventral margin smooth or strongly dentate. Hinge strong, with 1 of the teeth bifid. Ligament internal. Shell translucent to opaque white. Size: Up to 2.7 mm in length. Distribution: Capricorn Channel, Qld, southwards and around southern Australia to Rottnest Island, WA, including Tas. Habitat: Known from beach washup and down to 295 m depth. The AMS collection holds 125 lots, indicating it is a common species. Comparison: This species stands out because of its ovate shape with nipple-like umbo, and one of the hinge teeth bifid. Synonymy: Previously recorded synonyms are Cuna solida Cotton, 1931 from SA and Warrana eccentrica Laseron, 1953 from NSW. Fig. 1: North-east of Cape Moreton, Qld (C.386355).
