Family  Rhizoridae

Canoe shells

A molecular phylogeny of the Cephalaspidae (Malaquias, 2009) found that the Retusidae was polyphyletic, and consequently the family Rhizoridae, which had been erected by Dell in 1952, was reinstated for Rhizorus and Volvulella. The genus Volvulella contains about 35 small, elongate, bubble shells, of which 2 are found in NSW.
