Condylocardia notoaustralis Cotton, 1930

Description: Shell minute. Prodissoconch with central indentation, then a slight radial pattern, separated by a sharp ridge from adult shell. Shape outline oval to triangular, apex on midline; anterior and posterior dorsal margins slightly convex, ventral margin smoothly rounded. Exterior with fine commarginal ribs, fine commarginal growth lines, and 13-19 strong radial ribs. Interior smooth apart from muscle scars, margin with 13-19 square denticles. Hinge strong, of condylocardiid style. Ligament internal. Shell opaque white or brown.

Size: Up to 1.6 mm in length.

Distribution: Southern Qld, southwards and around southern Australia to SA, including Tas.

Habitat: Known from beach washup and down to 399 m depth. The AMS collection holds 120 lots of this species, some of which contain dozens of specimens, indicating this is a common species.

Synonymy: Condylocardia rotunda Laseron, 1953 and Radiocondyla jacksonensis Laseron, 1953 are both synonyms, described from specimens from Sydney.

Remarks: This species is very variable in shape and colour throughout its wide geographic distribution and depth of occurrence, but there is no single character that consistently separates the forms.
